You don’t have to. You GET to.

Did you ever notice that the problem with 6am flights is that they don’t occur at 12pm?

Good super-early morning from EWR, where I’m about to board a plane to Toronto for a quick Keynote this afternoon.

When my alarm went off at 3am (which is 45 minutes early than I usually get up,) I won’t lie, it hurt. I’m currently on day five of an eight-day water fast, and while I have plenty of energy, a 3am wake up call would hurt for anyone.

So before I went to bed, I put a post-it note on my phone, so I’d have to look at it in order to shut my phone off. It read:

“Flip the conversation.”

What does that mean? Simply put, it means that no matter how tired I was, I looked at my alarm going off in a different way:

get to hear my alarm go off, so that means I’m still alive.

I get to get up to give a speech, because I’m fortunate enough to have a way to earn a living.

I get to get up early because I’m lucky enough to have a reputation that makes people want to fly me places to pay me to speak.

And so on.

In the end, it comes down to my favorite bit of advice: Simply replace “I have to,” with “I get to.” You’ll be amazed what happens when you do.

Sending love from two different countries this morning. We’ll talk again soon.

Have a spectacular week, and reach out if I can ever help you with anything!
