Hey gang. Remember me? Been about a month. Been a tough month, not gonna lie. But I’m coming out of it slowly but surely.
The challenges I’ve faced this past month made me think about something. You ever watch these videos on Instagram or Reddit, things like “idiots getting hurt” or similar? Usually they’re idiots doing stupid things, and the outcomes are just as you’d expect – They land on their face, or break their arm, or knock out a few teeth, or whatever. Now, I don’t love to see people getting hurt, but there’s something almost funny about watching people who you KNOW are about to do something stupid, in fact, do something stupid.
Problem is, the videos almost ALWAYS cut off the second after the person’s face makes contact with the floor, or they fall into the fire pit, or the golf cart winds up in the lake. In other words, we miss the satisfying part where maybe, just maybe, they say “I shouldn’t have done that,” and possibly learn a thing or two.
To put it another way, “don’t stop filming!” The best parts are usually right after the big parts, but hardly anyone keeps filming. 99% of all of these videos simply end too soon.
But that’s a metaphor on life, I think. Don’t stop. Just keep going. You’re not beaten unless you stay down. Get up. No matter how bad things are, just get up one more time. Just keep taking that one more step forward. To quote Rocky Balboa:
“It ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
So, my friends… If you’re having a bad day today, a bad week, or even, as I had, a bad month… Just keep moving forward. “Just keep swimming,” as it were. It gets better. We just gotta keep moving forward until it does.
“Have faith, and faith shall be given to you. In other words, fake it till you make it.” -Leo McGarry (Jon Spencer,) The West Wing.
I’m here if you need me, my friends. Always. Just reply.
Much love,
-Peter
PS: I noticed this morning that over 4,000 people have purchased my “Master the Media” course and learned all the secrets to getting PR and press that I learned during my time running HARO. That made me kind of happy. Want to join them? It’s only $99! Get it here!
